Dog Brush
How to select the right brush for your pet.
It is so very important to have the correct type of dog brush for grooming your precious pet, not only to make his or her coat look shiny and silky beautiful, but also for keeping its fur nice and
healthy. The right type of brush is not only important for long-haired breeds of dogs, but for short-haired breeds as well, in order to remove excess hair (that would be shedded anyway) but to let
the skin breathe.
A 'pin' brush, which is made of metal is perfect for pets with extra thick or ratted and tangled hair. Follow up with a brush called a 'slicker' brush, as you will get more of a thorough comb through
with this, as the spacing between the teeth is tighter.
Brushing your dog's coat with a soft brush is like a wonderful, relaxing and soothing massage and will not only make your dog feel calm and relaxed, but will make his or her coat shiny and
healthy. Using a stronger and harder bristle brush though, is the only way to get rid of tangles or debris from his or her coat. You can use a wire brush or a strong plastic one, but always make
sure it's strong enough to remove debris, ticks, fleas and tangles.
When choosing a dog brush, don't go for 'cheaper the better' as that's not the case. In order to make the grooming experience more enjoyable and pleasant for you and your dog, make sure you
buy a quality brush, not a 'bargain basement' one. Like anything else, you get what you pay for.
The best way to keep your dog 'tangle free' is to, not only brush him or her after each bathing, but to brush daily for five minutes before bedtime. That way, the next bath time will be easier and
less stressful for all concerned.
