Why Your Dog Should Be Wearing Fancy Dog Clothes

Clothing for your animals is all the rage today. You can’t take your dog for a walk without seeing another pet wearing a dog coat, dog jacket, a dog backpack, a dog dress and the list goes on. I’ve actually seen dog bandannas, dog pajamas, dog shoes, dog sunglasses, dog sweaters and even dog costumes for Halloween time, can you imagine that?

Many people frown on making your dog wear clothing for a couple reasons. They don’t like their dog with clothes on because they say that it makes them too hot. The other reason they look down on dog clothing is because they say that it turns dogs into humans and places too much emphasis on their role in our society. For some reason we’ve come to the conclusion that a dog isn’t as important as other forms of life. There are numerous studies that show, having a pet, or a dog and showing love to them in any way possible has healing and healthy effects on the person giving that love. That only makes sense. Also by putting a designer dog sweater on your pet, doesn’t mean you value or think that your dog is more important than a human, it just means you enjoy your dog, like to have fun and have a good time showing them the love and attention they deserve. The other reason people don’t like to put fancy dog clothes on their animals is because they think that it’ll make them too hot. There are a few points to consider here. If your dog has long shaggy hair and its 90 degrees in the middle of the humid summer and there’s no shade, then yes your dog will probably get too hot. But if your dog has short hair and it’s a mild temperature outside your dog is not going to be too warm wearing a dog t shirt let along a fancy dog coat. You can always monitor how hot they are by how fast they are breathing or panting, if their tongue is sticking way outside their mouth and if their nose is moist. As long as you are there to monitor your dogs internal temperature, there isn’t a problem wearing some nice dog clothes.

Now that we’ve looked at the negative aspects of dogs wearing clothes, let’s look at all the positive points about pet clothing. Wearing pet clothes is not only fun but it can keep your dog warm, safe and clean too. I’ve seen many sports fans buy a dog jacket or dog t-shirt for their dog that represents their favorite sports team. Imagine the looks on the faces of all the guys when they come over for the big game, only to see fido wearing the latest Kobe Bryant or Lakers dog sports clothes? Talk about fun! Also if its winter time, or even fall or spring and it’s a semi nippy or cold day outside, having your dog wear a nice doggy jacket will help keep them warm. There are many items your dog could wear that would keep them safe. Let’s say for example that your dog ran away from home and it was dusk or even nighttime. You come home frantic that your precious pet just got loose and what if they get hit by a car? Wouldn’t it be nice to at least know your dog was wearing a reflective vest or a flashing LED dog collar that can be seen by oncoming traffic and cars? That one item could literally save your dogs life. The last thing you want is for your dog to get hit because it’s night and drivers can’t see them. And what dog do you know that has never even once, ran away? Also dog clothing is great because it can keep ticks, fleas as well as dirt and mud from getting in their fur if they go play outside. When they are done playing and want to come inside, all you have to do is take off their dog shirt and whallah, they’re instantly clean and won’t get dirt and mud all over your new couch, rug or furniture! Isn’t that nice?
