What are the benefits of water toys for dogs?
There is nothing more invigorating, stimulating and fun than taking your dog to the lake, beach or pool for a day of exercise for both you and your dog. There is nothing that could be better for your dog for it's stamina, overall health and actual longevity than exercising on the beach with you and some of it's favorite dog water toys.
There are so many wonderful and appropriate water toys available for your pet, of course depending on the breed and size of your dog, as well as it's age and stamina level. Most dogs love to be thrown frisbees (or flying discs) along the shore, for them to chase, retrieve and bring back to you. There are various types of frisbees too, again depending on the size of dog you have. There are larger and more durable type frisbees for more aggressive dogs with larger teeth. Dogs also love being thrown a ball to retrieve along the waters edge. Any type of plastic bone toy would also work just as well. Always make sure, though, that there are no small parts that your dog could choke on or swallow. As with any type of toy, safety is the prime concern.
Never throw your dog into the water, as it might frighten him for life. Start off by playing with him in shallow water on the water's edge with his frisbee or plastic dog bone, to let him get the feel of the cool water on his paws and let him hear the sound of the waves. Then gradually entice him out into deeper water with his favorite water toy.
Did you know that, if you are a surfer, you can even teach your dog to surf. Give it a go sometime! He will be hooked for life!
